maybe people want to return to normal no matter how fucked up normality be. maybe people will not change until they are forced to or die and decompose and their molecules disperse in watery breathing earth and respiring sky. maybe people will come to know they are not just living under a sick regime but are in truth themselves the status quo. maybe normal will be more of the same plus massive global change. it's funny how people try to compare the pandemic with other crises like the so-called financial crisis of 08 or the beginning of the unending terror wars but people no matter how hard they strain their brain can't put a human frame around this any more than they can defy death, this is nature writ large, beyond all the human boundaries.
