it was beautiful and warm today. little bear has a new minimal harness i like and she seems happier in. i almost wished i had swim shorts and i almost opted to take my jeans off and go in my blue briefs but i demurred. we walked round the point and decided to go south along the beach instead of north, with the added thought of going to the next beach south, but as we climbed up the ridge a fellow on a bike asked for help. he was riding the path in south shore and somebody jumped in front of his bike and he was knocked down unconscious. he wanted me to see if his phone was still in his backpack. he had woke to see the attacker run off and another fellow asking if he was ok. he must have been in shock and said yes and started riding north but when he saw me he realized he was in a bad way. i found his phone and called his wife and then an ambulance. if we had headed north we would have missed him. i walked lulu and then went and did a one minute swim:it was 59 degrees. i decided once again to get a wet suit. i called the fellow, john's wife and she had just spoken to the hospital. he has four broken ribs and a broken collar bone. luckily the ribs didn't puncture his lung. he was traumatized and didn't want to go to the hospital, but knew he must. he said i was so happy, i was going to ride to indiana. in a moment everything changed. i recalled the time a guy jumped out in front of me thinking i would stop and instead i barrelled straight at him with with all my strength and he jumped back suddenly terrified himself and i rode on exhilarated at my escape. i had the memory and the wish that i could have done that for john.
