sarah sent a note about artists in quarantine. thinking artists always were, but more so now, and now the quarantine is the show. and it's free. it's hard to contemplate what happens outside quarantine but inside art is easier. contemplation is still contemplation though the focus may shift in the pandemic quarantine. art still concerns us with matter. the matter of contemplation. we need to think about things without getting overwhelmed by what is happening. professor west said yesterday we're not surprised by evil though it's still has the power to shock us even in quarantine, nor are we going to allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by despair—that's what it means to be blues people.
now i've been missing making tangible art again though i reiterate sometimes that art's life and even a diary is art, if it's seen. the thing of quarantine art is being, and being is being seen. we don't need fame or money or even objects, though we want them for talismans, like this little bird skull or this flag stick, but we need to be seen, and not just any way, but as we are inside.
