word of the day from s.e.l.— elision.

although i used the word in mail to s.e.l. she looked it up and i was thinking i should but did not and i thereupon learned a new meaning of a word i had a vague idea was apt. hence,
the omission of a sound or syllable when speaking (as in I'mlet'se ' en ).
  • an omission of a passage in a book, speech, or film.
"the movie's elisions and distortions have been carefully thought out"
  • the process of joining together or merging things, especially abstract ideas.
"unease at the elision of so many vital questions"
