 yesterday i saw this peregrine on the 17th floor fire escape and watched a part drop to the ground and the peregrine looking down to see, then flying off leaving the entrails with a feather dangling through the grate. today the entrails are gone and the foot is still laying below. i wrote to mary h. at the field museum and she said it's the foot of a homing pigeon. there's a tracking site but i'm not going to do that. i'm sorry about the homing pigeon but i thought about the documentary we saw where a pigeon racer shot a peregrine for preying on his brood. that's uncool. she said they shoot peregrines here too and i said i'm happy to just let the foot be and the pigeon racer to imagine their homing pigeon has flown the coop for a new home in the sky, which is the reality.
