the solution regarding my limited resources is to respect my limits and not allow my resources to be extracted without reciprocity. money isn't enough, especially austerity dollars. 

specifically, i had to say no to cat duty for the neighbor, and i only regret not being definitive at first. my gut said no, you've been utilized before. so i said later, no, i have not the time, which is true, i have to do my own, and that's all i got. my own now is 4 dogs 2 cats r. and me. that's us and it's enough. but she freaked, and her reaction was partly due to my initial vagueness. be clear, duggles, have the courage of your convictions. respect your resource. be careful and be good to yourself. you will thank yourself in the short and the long run.

so, to respect the limits, not to be narcissistic or to be unhelpful, but if we tap out our energy beyond the limits, the common good is compromised as well as ourselves.
