it doesn't matter in terms of metareality but then nothing and everything does, but while i was titillated and entertained by rocketman and it was a damn sight better than bohemian rhapsody the director is definitely making sensational pop culture not nuanced art. most of the poetry gets leached out by these star shot bipoics. the elton and the bernie i knew and loved were absent on this ride. i feel betrayed by fame and i never wanted it. i went along on the elton bernie express because of the charisma and momentum but more so because of the lambent heart of the early work before the pyrotechnics and the drugs took over. i miss that elton but i still have him though rocketman left him out.
