i think some people only think of their own life—they measure it carelessly, like the short life of their personal devices, there will be a new generation, it's already in the pipeline, of novelty and planned obsolescence—it's hard when you are regarded as a commodity yourself to think of the lives of others other than as resources to extract from or accomplices—but that's only the individuals who are society. there are many individuals who have broken free and are drifting in place.
