it's uncanny how impish the waves are. before and after: big show. when i set mister up and wait, splish-splash-pfft. which is fine by mister he's getting  nervous anyway. one wave did come in his hatch-back screen, and he started to climb out. soon as i move him- ten-foot wave crush. by the afternoon the waves were mounting. two fathers and two girls sat on the wall. the men were ignoring the girls. i asked them if they would watch mister while i jump in. they say yes and i probably ignored him along with the girls. the girls watch me, and watch mister. they are polite and reserved, but when i start talking they become loose and animated, smiling and talking. i talk to them somehow like i'm a kid and they're grown, and they're smart. we meet in the middle of age and we're the same age, telling each other things, asking each other other things. the younger sister when we leave says it was very nice talking with you. mister was sitting so calm in his cherriot the whole time.
