the word of the day is autochthonous, to be formed or originated in the place where found. i'm reading an article about this little forest in wisconsin the menominee got back from the white settlers. it's the only forest left in a vast patchwork of roads fences and cows. as the climate warms the species migrate north out of the forest and the trees that are left all have insect predators and more susceptibility to fire. i thought it would be nice to go there, but it would also feel sad i imagine. the article says there have always been changes, but things changed back and forth. it feels like this is change that doesn't go back. and further north it's changing even faster. what does autochthonous mean now? it means we reap what we sow, or we cultivate what can survive or migrate—where? today is the full moon called the crow moon, worm moon and the sap moon.
