the idea is we weren't human and then became human and evolved and we left our animal past behind. then some branches of the humans died out or other humans said they were dirty animals and killed them and proceeded to evolve the human technology of superiority and thus evolved the empire of democracy. i was thinking of putting how to be animal in my queue and i hesitated and it was too late to be first (to hesitate is human) so i'll be content with an excerpt and a paraphrase from orion magazine.
