thinking about identity, i finished heart berries, about a salish indigenous girl and the sad saga of being a smart native in north america. the pain of false identity imposed. started the lies that bind/rethinking identity, and oh shit, i gotta go. i was just thinking of what is imposed on us, layer on layer, of false identity, a matrix of artifice. wondering how the hell can we discover who we are? oh my dog it's hard to get going in the morning in this sad world.
it's sad when you're trying to know who you are meanwhile you're born in a matrix of identities that don't represent you and yet you have to choose among identities society codifies in order to have an identity in society you can leverage according to the laws and norms and dubious benefits of the imposed unchosen society. there is freedom in art and in the individual mind, but it seems, increasingly, the common state of mind is colonized by propaganda and technology. society is not the means toward freedom but the force and the stark expression of control. and the tendency toward control is absolute domination. i wonder what it means when hawking says it's all for a reason and we are not alone.
