notes on blindness. he said he saw in dreams and woke blind. the brain hungers for pictures. the blind longing for optic stimulation like the body hungers for food. blindness was tempting him into another world, but he wanted to stay in the reality of this one, blind. he felt he could go into acquiesence and die. i felt the hunger for pictures too, and blindness was always in the air, feeding the hunger, like the idea of death, so palpable, from childhood, feeding the living, a subtle electricity undefined. i thought seeing and blindness are aspects of each other, he said in his taped notes, cognition is beautiful, it's beautiful to know. he asked the recorder, how can we understand the other? can we have insight into another? i've thought i was storing pictures for when i go blind.
