Just a brief report of a tall coyote, walking slowly south along the
large concrete slabs at 67th & LSD. It was walking along the water's
edge, at the northeast corner of the south Shore Cultural Center golf
course at 4:22 p.m. It was a memorable sight, in the fading light, and the lake waters beyond. The loneliness of the night hunter.
love that pat. i just started reading becoming the beast. you ever see the jos. beuys piece with the coyote? you tube.
Just looked at the Jos. Beuys video. Way over my head, but video on who is Jos. Beuys helped.
it's not so intellectual. he had experience with shamans and healers
when he almost died in the war. and the animal spirits spoke to him.
he was trying to bring the coyote spirit close again, in new york city,
in the west, where we lost the animal spirits largely to
extinction.
...
omg, i joined the obama center discussion group and it's hair-tearing.
wasn't olmsted's plan separate from the exposition? people are saying
the center is justified because olmsted designed it for much greater
traffic and buildings, but i understood olmsted as designing for open
space, beyond the temporary colony of exposition constructions.
Those folks drank deep from the Obama cool aide. Tower gets taller and
taller. I'll forward an article from today's Tribune that touches on the
subject. Olmsted wanted natural space to be preeminent.
i went to a rousing talk with tom mitchell, who wrote landscape and
power, and wants the thing moved still, so i'm energized and feel more
allies coming.
it looks like a prison in the drawing i saw.
and the one by washington park by ronan, the rejected architecture and
site, is so light and open by contrast.
I think I met Tom at the Obama meeting with cookies last summer. He
spoke up . Afterward I went over to meet him and shake his hand.
p.s. Lately I have been thinking that the presidency could be given to Watson, the IBM computer.
that might be a brilliant idea. the whole damn shebang on
artificial intelligence. a vast improvement on a brain stem with and
orange fright wig.
i really liked tom. i hope to get him with
the save the midway group. we have to save the park, or do our doggone
best to try, and make sure at least they know it is a grand theft.
