for today we have saved the midway 
though we don't quite know what it means
with the dark development looming 
just across the street
we have to be wary while we celebrate
the saving of any small parcel of green space
for it is not ours and green 
as we've often seen
can be taken away
so easily
it is the saving of the green
that is hard
and saved provisionally 
but for today

we celebrate
this windfall apple
of green space
