This moment for me, I’m questioning electoral-ism as an energy suck and
as a vehicle for transformation. I understand that voting was a tactic
of harm reduction. I don’t know. I think the energy that goes into these
presidential campaigns, everybody’s focused on them, actually might be
to the detriment of the work that needs to be getting done for our
survival on a bigger scale. I know what the Democratic Party is for me.
They don’t represent me. Like, I’m not their constituency in the least.
And like, as the years have gone on, I’m less and less and less that for
them. They don’t need to listen to me. I’m not their audience. And they
definitely don’t cater to my politics and my politic. And as that’s
becoming clearer and clearer to me, I’m just wondering, what else is
there for us to be doing? If we’re going to engage in electoral
organizing, what does it mean to do that work? What should we be
focusing on and pushing? Can we be using the resources that are devoted
to this in different kinds of ways?
