listening to an interview with carl anthony, author of the earth, the city, and the hidden narrative of race i think of obama's tower in the park. anthony talks about domination and fragmentation of community, of buildings as productions of private wealth, of architecture as the expression of power. carl anthony is writing about about white power, yet it seems clear that obama's presence and his architecture expresses the same values, of power over people. i have to read this book and i also want to look for the private city by sam bass warner, jr.
i registered for a symposium on the obama center, but at the bottom it says it will be a celebration of his legacy, so i'm not expecting much good to come of it, but who knows. w.j.t. mitchell organized it and thinks obama the best president ever. but i won't be there celebrating his legacy, i'll be there to resist his legacy.
