bird report, november 11, 2017.

one year ago today r. asked me if we could meet and talk about birds and stuff. i was shy and said i really only walk dogs, do you want to walk with mister and me? today she is with her mom and sister, and i'm with mister and the birders, doing my first bird report, to celebrate this full year of birds and stuff.
i didn't count the birds but i counted i think ten birders and there were probably more birds but not many more. all the leaves seem to have fallen at once. there was a fellow from the art institute making a 16mm film about birders and how they interact with each other and in the space where birds live. birds bring people out and help them to look carefully and quietly and birds make people more cognizant of all the things modern humans generally overlook. no one is in a headphone bubble, no one is encased in a personal device. all eyes are moving in the bushes and in the trees and glidinging over the water and breathing in the sky.
we have been so fortunate for this challenged green space, and for the beings passionate for the life within. the fences are coming down. i walked right through a 15 foot fence that had become so ubiquitous that mister walked around it, not seeing that it was no longer there.
mister would like to give thanks for the tasty bones and crescent moon pumpkin treats, and the good hands, and the plush ride to the museum side.
we love you, in gratitude and continuity of green space and bird fellowship.

for r. who always walks with us now.
