this is our walk today in sequence as i saw things and as mister saw things. he saw things i didn't see and i saw things he didn't see and we also saw things together. in some way he's aware of what i do as recording i think, and he has a sense of each walk as a little journey. there is endless variation in repetition and it is rarely routine and if it is it rarely lasts before the next variation, the next surprise, the next discovery. my sister once suggested i make videos of walks to give to the family of the dog, she would do an art raffle and that would be the prize. but i think it might be intrusive. the camera is the other one with us that sees, and it sees how it sees. afterwards i come to see it that way, and the other walk is feeling, the feeling that may be invoked again by what the camera recorded, or changed. with the still camera there are gaps between each still frame, and you can imagine what might be in the gaps. when the camera is set on diorama i feel like i'm a sort of hovering observer, the one that follows the dog that follows his nose or a similar will-o-the-wisp as me.
