yet in the human psyche we dream of predation
we who have never known animal predators,
only human.
we lost the connection,
lost the dream of animals, we lost
our animal dreams, yet the animals
persist, they colonize our unconscious,
while we are the predators
in animals' dreams. 
and we can't translate
the fear into action.
we can't take care
of our own.
it goes to ground, it burrows
in exhausted soil, 
it slowly decomposes, it turns
into metaphor.
