the voices within

the history & science of how we talk to ourselves.

is a book i just got from blackstone library my oasis of heat and mecca of mystery and mind. my hive and home of my best buddies the library bees.

the inside jacket blurb said to me, At the moment you caught sight of this book, what were you thinking? Was your thought a stream of sensations? Or was it a voice in your head? Did you ask yourself, "I wonder what that's about?"  Did you answer? And what does it mean if you did?

and i was hooked. and that was after i got it home.

one time i recall saying to carlos the soft-spoken humanitarian librarian, aren't the mystery writers kind of, like, taking over the shelves?  how can one author have five new books! and he mildly shrugged, guess so.
and then something changed perhaps, or is it me? i'm seeing a different shelf now.

it's your spirit and your sensibilities that draw me. not only the thing i put on your head.

oolong. tea and rabbit.
