i saw emma briant on democracy now today and yesterday and i wrote her after the program this morning, and wrote again asking to review her forthcoming book,
Propaganda Machine: Inside Cambridge Analytica and the Digital Influence Industry.
i get overwhelmed by the news and i crawl back into the fur of the nearest dog, but even walking, with no personal device, not even a leash, i feel the air that corrodes freedom, and i believe once we know what is going on we can't go back, we can't hide under a rock, insulate ourselves with drugs or candy, hide in the fur of a golden retriever. we can burrow for sanity, but we also have to learn more about what comprises our hidden reality. i spoke to someone this morning who never heard of cambridge analytica and the digital influence industry and is skeptical about it's power, asking saying why wasn't he influenced. and some of us may be less than others, but all of us are influenced by the destruction of democracy, even, maybe especially, the skeptical.
a dog blog may be an unlikely forum for a book review on the propaganda machine, but it's a perfect fit for me, and i will be glad to share it with you.
