it's no excuse but my dad and his brother did fuck up my empathy. empathy is a learned thing i think. if you are emotionally abandoned you go inward to learn, or you find a connection where yours was unformed or broken. with dad it was unformed; with uncle, broken. empathy is nature and if it has no connection it gets fused and stunted.
