this was chaos. a nest of bunnies in the middle of the baseball diamond by the pitcher's mound. i knew it was there and so did the dogs but i thought the dogs would be curious and not crazy. i wanted to get a picture to post somewhere to try to affect a rescue. one bunny popped up and then the others sounded the general alarm and i guess their instinct was to scatter and the pointers went into full on instinctual mode and didn't hear me so i started swatting them away and a lady yelled at me for smacking them and i said i'm trying to save the bunnies and she said they should be on a leash and i said never mind do what you will and she called the police and the police came by and said he knows he's seen me out here for years but people get so fucking righteous and think invoke the law with no understanding of life and life with dogs and nature and so on they just want to bitch and control and not to think at all, fucking reactionaries. ok so the police fellow was really cool and nice and meanwhile i sent a kid over to see the bunnies and the police fellow went over and said there are six, and maybe the mother is still around, but he chased a coyote from the tracks through the park and sure it was hunting. but i really thought the dogs would be cool, they're supposed to be civilized right? wrong, it's all conditioning, and when the conditions change watch out. human animals are just the same. but wonder what happens to instinct in the humanized scheme. the bunnies don't even try to hide, they're as exposed as can be, with dogs everywhere and coyotes and baseball games.
anyway i don't care about the blowhard that called on me. in fact i'm glad to meet him. he gets it. but i will take them the other direction for now in bunny season.
i just wonder about instinct, we still have animal instinct but in the human world it's gotten completely perverted by the false relationship to the natural world. animals and the environment are only for human use now. our instinct kills instinct, but the dead instinct remains and it means trouble.
