i wonder when this bench came to be here. i forgot to get all the words and hilde is blocking some, but what it says goes something like,
leaders
who devoted their lives
to the civic betterment
of neighborhood,
city
and state.
two of those, long dead are etched in the stone.
who are they today?
we saw the geese eating in the wet grass.
hilde ate a morsel of a fresh rabbit.
we played planet dog ball.
we met radiah planting flowers.
that's a hopeful sign i say.
but over in the circle i witness
a vanload of surveyors
plotting the land grab.
thanks to jack spicer i know the bench was given in 1932 to honor sylvester cheney and katherine goode, who worked for voting rights for women.
graffiti was added almost immediately and the sundial stolen and so it was then painted black.
