are human beings fables? do human beings believe in human beings? chance brought
our particles together into bodies. we never stop transforming particles into particles.

we trap some particles. others release. others go free.
we have unlimited potential, limited energy.

beyond our energy lies our disappearance,
its afterbeing felt already in our lonely code.

we do the work, assign the energy, make heat,
we build the structures haphazardly,
the streets are chaos, there's no system to contain entropy.

we're still greedy for life, we're still awestruck and naive,
we still make war and talk of peace,
we're real cynical, we still believe.

we have a life of expectancy.
we believe it will never end.
why would it.

but we were made so fragile
we required heat
but made too much
we were consumed by it
our own heat
yet we grew colder
paradoxically.

sweet dependence is scary when you are alone.
we're always dependent and never alone.
yet we die lonely.

we thought we were exempt. thought we were the apex species.
we thought we would never disappear
like the ones who went before us.

we believe in individual freedom and the individual dies but freedom does not die so we die for freedom.

and in our death all is settled. entropy resolves. the struggle continues. without us. it's just a thought.

and if we have no progeny, no offspring, we have fellow travelers, we have shared finite energy, we have a lucid dream of infinity.

we have unexpected events along the way, we have chance mutations in the lonely code, we have this dream we can't shake of evolution in which there is no end and we are always beginning.

but while resources dwindle, and systems compete, true individuals cooperate, true individuals are free.

like you, mister light-face, and me, we cooperate, we don't compete.

we will continue, crossing this bridge and holding hands, until the end, under the sky, another bridge, the same sky.
