you want a dog, not for somebody to control, i hope, but somebody to love and protect who will reciprocate infinitely. nothing much at all in the society of force is within our control, but let us not take it out on the dogs we're meant to love. and in the same respect, there is no real protection in the total society, but love, and the modicum of protection we can give the dogs we have as benefactors, if we're lucky enough.
