cat report, saturday october 6, 2018. penny slept in r.'s place next to me, until a loud boom boomed and she leapt under the bed. jasper in the blue swivel chair was calm, though generally frightened of the least disturbance in the air. i watched stronger, a movie about the guy who loses his legs at the boston marathon waiting for his girlfriend at the finish line. grueling. they got the gut experience. the horror of losing your legs and the horror of living on. they immediately and thoughtlessly made him a hero, and he's like what the fuck, i was just standing there and my legs were blown off, what hero? and they made him a flag waving sports spectacle in the war on terror? bullshit. anyway, he said it was, but then a guy whose brother offed himself after his other brother was blown up in the u.s. war on terror, the horror of killing in a bullshit war, came and said what the guy whose legs were blown off meant to him, and he said, if i can live, then you can live. then he saw that he was a kind of hero. that surviving this violent senseless world is heroic. and that we can help each other, even if we can't stop the mass destruction of the culture we are helplessly born into. anyway back to the cats. this morning both cats were sleeping peacefully in the bed with me, keeping company while r. is away in providence. and the storms have for the moment passed, and there was a partial rainbow in the west just by the duo of cranes erecting another tower.
