Hope doesn’t go away, but it morphs and mutates. Have we become habituated to despair?                          -The Conversation

last night we watched aquarela. it's about the death of ancient ice and what it becomes as water. it's about the unthinkable transition we're in. i thought about how we can't get our mind around our time. what do i want to see in art to help me think about things? seeing the awesome power of water helps, though it will wash us away, flush us down the ultimate sluice. seeing that our machinations are weak by comparison. but the grief, we need to see the water rise and show our grief to each other, knowing it's not ultimate, it's not even all about us.
