and sarah mentioned existential psychology and i'm immediately intrigued though i suppose i've always had that approach to living and by extension talk therapy when i've sought it, generally in existential crises. it's been around a long time, before the existentialists. i wonder if sartre ever did existential psychotherapy. it probably didn't exist yet, and he was probably doing it already, maybe with simone de b. anyway i was thinking how sarah's ex-therapist went away to the edge of america in california to continue to practice existential therapy, or perhaps to retire from existential therapy and ruminate on and write about her career in existential therapy in the existential midwest.
