we human beings derive a precarious sense of security and pleasure (as well as pain and sorrow) from the sense of self.
if we look closely, honestly, we find that we are not unique. discovering the truth about ourselves is discovering is discovering the truth about others. once we realize how utterly similar we are to each other in our needs, reactions, and emotions, we will not be afraid of getting hurt by others. hurt in ourselves and hurt in others is the same hurt.
