we saw 24 frames, abbas kiarostami's final film. i was wondering if he knew it was his final film and what it would be like. what would my final post be? it would just be what happened that day. 24 frames does feel like a final film, it feels like a meditation on death and nature, isolation, separation, the quotidian and the numinous, screens and balustrades, frames and windows, waves and snow, the within and the beyond. considering the beyond in the death of nature, the nature of consciousness meditating on death, water, animals connecting us to the beyond within. if we look back at his other films the same meditation is likely a recurring motif, human incursion on nature, encroachment, and nature, the withdrawal of the human, separation, the waters crossing, erasing boundaries.
