Yesterday I referred to Stuart the dog as a person, I didn't realize until it was questioned, and yes, I do think of dogs as persons, humans are not the only persons just because they call themselves so. Just now I watched a film about a river in Appalachia, the Swannoa. The river gets to speak a poem. In the Cherokee language river translates as long person. In animism everything is a person.
