the fountain of charlie (her, she). 

charlie on the fountain of time the reaper. it was intended to be marble, white like the white city of impermanence, but concrete was more modern ie cheaper. it's still here, still eroding, through acid rain and ice and baking sun. at the other end of the midway, across from the obamalandgrab, the fountain of creation was meant to be, and the midway linking time and creation was intended to be a canal with bridges all along. now we'll have obama's white tower, monument to the hubris of vast wealth and political corruption.

fountain of time has maintained this link to history as the city has changed around it. it alludes unceasingly to a chicago that might have been, even while affirming, implicitly, that it could not be. taft himself seems to have recognized this truth. time stays, we go.   (daniel cioffi)
