i told a friend about gunda that it's about pigs and she said No, is it sad??? and said she made a pork ragu for dinner for the kid.
the film is about people's dissociation about animals and consumption. i said i don't think it's sad. but it is, and so is dinner.
the film we saw last night, light from light, it bugs me. it's not worth dwelling on, but somehow it got under my skin. some bad movies do that and it's annoying adding to the poor experience with useless cogitation about why it's a bad movie. i wrote a quick review on mubi, but i really want to know how in the world other people found it mysterious and satisfying when to me the only mystery was what was missing. now i think why do i put those two things together, the film about pigs and the film about ghosts. the pork ragu dinner and the filmic invitation to a ghost story fails to satisfy. there's a continuum of dissociation if you see it, and it's sad and annoying and you can't un-see it.
