i kinda had a feeling about swimming today but of course we went anyway. the gathering of lifeguards were there again but said nothing. there was a father and two tiny kids, and further down from the human sector, where the shoreline ecological restoration was washed away, i saw a friend from pebble beach who saw us but didn't recognize us, or didn't wish to draw more attention, maybe, had his dog wolfgang swimming on leash and lulu and i went further out to the sand bar and beyond, and mostly lulu was horizontal and swimming well, only once she started swimming vertically and sinking but i righted her and threw the ball back to the sandbar where she could rest. two life guards, one girl and one boy, came and told the dad and kids the beach was closed and they left, then told wolfgang and dad the same, and they left, and lulu and i stayed and the l.g.'s walked back and forth waiting for us to come out, for a good while, and i wanted to come in and be natural and go back and forth but we just used the sandbar to rest and went to and fro as they walked back and forth idly watching us, the girl in the sand wearing a full leg brace. we lost the green floating ball and lulu ate something and found another ball and went way to the west end of the beach and out to sea and then i fetched her and eventually after playing with the new ball which was good but a sinker we emerged and got the message they give and i said there's no reason to bother people out here we're not bothering anyone and the girl says they're telling us that the lake is closed not just the beach which is a different message from yesterday i say when four lifeguards said the beach was closed but we could stay so she said well i hope you had a good swim anyway and i said oh we did and we'll just keep on doing it, the city is crazy and the city says all kinds if confusing irrational things and there are many more problematic places where people are congregating like protests where the police use batons and tear gas and otherwise wear no masks. this is a time to breathe deep when the coast is clear and keep on peacefully improvising around the crazy changes.
