i mentioned the film evelyn and sarah said it sounded too down and watched a film about a cult i think i saw with r. and it was way more disturbing than the film about evelyn and his suicide. i wrote back:

 

cults are fascinating. i think actually the whole of society is a collection of cults.

(about getting work from a collage workshop over to the art center for a show, she tried to tell herself it doesn't matter)

sure it matters if the work is seen. people say you do it for yourself, of course, and to be seen! especially when you're isolated.

evelyn was sad but the thing was they were way down before the film and the walking, so down they couldn't even speak of him, and they spoke of him and grieved, they went through it finally.

 

yeah actually i think we are fascinated by cults because we are in one big amorphous cult. it's called the united states. we're trying to figure out why.
