i thought my two caterpillars were gone

 but then i saw one dangling from a thread

 i assumed that a spider had gotten her

 and was hollowing her out, but this could be my imagination

i thought she was dead, but her antennae moved slowly, so i put her back on the leaf and she seemed to grab on directly. perhaps she was in a stage of transformation, or was being eaten by a parasitoid. maybe i'll see tomorrow.
