i was returning materials to the library and i said to carlos i guess i'm not getting anything today. he said, are you sure and i said ok i go look and behold i find While the City Slept, and i tell carlos you were right i think my unconscious ordered this while i and the city slept. but it's a harrowing, sad tale about a stabbing, yet like with An Act of Killing and The Look of Silence, i had to look within, and like those brilliant films, it tells us about our legacies of violence, how they travel from there to here.

and then i notice dna news a family of six were stabbed to death in their home on california avenue.

the salient thing about this book While the City Slept is the sympathy with both victims and killers, and in the indictment of the moribund underfunded system. a good read, a good cry.
