the cosmos that we enter is one where one is overwhelmed. someone said that in regard to the art work of hilma af klint, and i suppose she meant the vastness of space and creation, but i've felt that about the built world. the vastness of space doesn't make me feel afraid or alienated like the built world. yet we live in the built world, and i'm glad to be here, in a building with a view of the built world. maybe the trouble is it just keeps expanding in a distinctly finite, crowded space, as though the expansion of building were as infinite as the expansion of space. we live in a rich grid, a local vastness, with vast riches determining how the built space is occupied, where money is both scarce and infinite, depending on who you are, and more, who you are not. but we're still pretty localized, no matter how much we own, or how far, up or out, we try and go.
