i'm yearning to finish The Circle not because it's compelling but to get to the end because after three hundered and fifty pages it feels pathetic to quit. i thought it was going to get interesting but it is only in an abastact way one might have gleaned from the ether alone or a one page premise. the scenario is dull even though it should be terrifying, strange. maybe he intends all of that, but surely not boredom in the reader. the scenarion is actually stifling and boring, total control, total participation, with people actually participating less individually and more as blank fixtures in the Circle, a reality construct lacking all reaity, a vacuum. which is not prophetic and which is already occuring. maybe he's just talking about what it's like today, but surely it must be more interesting, or why bother? maybe that's it though, he's saying why bother for six-hundred pages. i still hope the protagonist will bust out in some real anarchic transgression of The Circle, but i'm not hopeful.
