The new leaders prove their status as outsiders vis-à-vis the traditional political elites by ostentatiously breaking the accepted rules of engagement. Much of their charisma is derived from playing the part of the rogue. They do and say everything that most of their followers would want to do and say. [ ] Populist politicians are attacking the representatives of the establishment in order to topple them and take their place. Diogenes' aim is to show that the establishment does not have real power.
