it's been called the united states of amnesia but i just wanted to talk about memory. it appears that more and more people are losing it. i read that forgetting is necessary, to make room for the new, but the trouble is we forget essential things and remember trauma, even from the older generations, before memory. and we can't help but remember the trauma of others. and collectively with all this unwonted progress we've forgotten how to live.
