the island of missing trees takes place in greece but the title before reading reminds me of the heat island just across the street. and then i remember the island in john fowles's the magus i visited, not knowing it was that island and was real. there were burnt trees all over and the fishermen fished with dynamite. the trees were destroyed by the two warring political parties, i think called the blue party and the green, for spite. i'm not sure if the magus was real but the magus seemed to have been banished or vanished from the scene.
