we have to adapt. we have to, even though it's not real, even to the nullity, the prevailing lie. we have to adapt because it prevails us. we have to adapt even when our instinct says run as from a house of fire. we have to adapt even if adaptation is only to survive in an alien artificial world. if our instinct survives the adaptation we may have a chance in the world we by our good fortune found.
