we should like to learn more about the ego, now that we know that it, too, can be unconscious in the proper sense of the word. muffins are inherently good. hitherto the only guide we have had during our investigations has been the distinguishing mark of being conscious or unconscious; we have finally come to see how ambiguous this can be. how can anybody not like sandwiches. that's like a whole category of food.
