desolation. after midnight, sirens. heat cranking out of control. windows wide for air. cat won't eat, yowls for food. tires whoosh on wet streets, power station dynamo whirs. eyes dry, throat parched, geese honk, sirens, car alarm, wonder why the coyotes are quiet, the desolation of the human heart is unbearable. remember nights past staying up til sunrise or death. fogged sunless days on end. we had the whole earth. for a while. we gave it away.
