mister! We saved the midway! now... let's save the PARK!
this morning i was telling diva's dad i was starting to get hopeful, and i'm wary of hopefulness you know. oh, i know, he said. and then i saw all those little kiddles playing there and i was late with my camera and i thought, damn, that picture could have saved the midway, and now it is saved! but this is just the first phase. this is huge and it means we still got hope and change of our own, hope and change that's real, not just a wall street slogan. hope and change on the ground level, in our very own green space, hope and change springing green in the dead of winter. let's get together and save jackson park. this is a major concession. they are not above the people, and we should not allow them to take our park. we must fight on, until the whole private enterprise is moved to private land. we are uniting now, and they will know all of us before this is over.

and now crain's chicago business features an article on the UC  faculty letter. YES.

i mean. these people are powerful, arrogant and hubristic trying to steal public land for a private foundation, but they aren't completely clueless. they know something of the community history of activism, and they must have known people would protest. and they know the concession of the midway parking garage is just the beginning of the dissent. you can get away with practically anything as president. but that was then, and not here.
now, we save the park.
