we saw no birders and precious few birds, a few gulls, no dogs, no coyotes, and only one other hominid, a photographer named lixin kan, who sent me this. it's a downright travesty what they are doing to our nature sanctuary, with all they've destroyed, and resulting the animal exodus, and what they intend to do will be the erasure of the island as sanctuary. it will be a manicured garden sanctuary for tourists with dollars, cultivated private island garden for the ex-president of the great empire, stolen from the people. it's a devastated place already, but it still has the olmsted spirit, a place of respite, crushed and razed but alive, and there is yet, for now, a grim beauty here.
