After reading the life of Paul Celan I don't know if I can keep his poems. I was wondering after 300 some pages what he thought of Israel, and finally at page 312 he goes to Jerusalem after the Six Day War and he's a Zionist and conflates Anti-Zionism with Anti-Semitism, and he can't see that he's supporting the same hate that killed his parents. I think this evil will never end, and I can't look at his poetry the same way, but before I get rid of the volumes, I'll look again. Maybe the poems are better than the person, but I can't separate them. Love not hate.
